Not a standard PDU, but a PDU designed around your infrastructure
Data centres differ. Rack power requirements differ. Connections differ. And requirements for monitoring, switching, cybersecurity and energy management are not the same in every environment.
So why should the PDU be a standard product?
At Schleifenbauer, your technical specification is the starting point. You determine the required power rating, input connection, cable length, outlet configuration, measurement functionality, protection and communication architecture.
The result is a PDU designed to fit the infrastructure, rather than infrastructure that has to be adapted to fit a standard PDU.
From Basic to fully Managed
Not every application requires the same level of intelligence. Schleifenbauer therefore offers different PDU functionalities.
Basic PDU For reliable power distribution without energy metering.
Metered PDU For power distribution with metering at input level.
Monitored PDU For detailed energy monitoring down to individual outlet level.
Switched PDU For input metering and remote switching of individual outlets.
Managed PDU Combines detailed outlet-level monitoring with remote outlet switching.
Want to keep existing Basic or legacy intelligent PDUs in operation? A Schleifenbauer Inline Meter can add energy metering to existing rack power infrastructure without replacing the installed PDU.
Configurable from 10A to 63A
Schleifenbauer rack PDUs are available for a wide range of power and rack configurations.
Depending on the application, configurations are available with 10A, 16A, 32A and 63A, in both single-phase and three-phase versions.
This makes it possible to configure PDUs for traditional server racks as well as high-density environments such as AI, GPU and HPC infrastructure.
A three-phase 63A configuration, for example, can support significantly higher rack power requirements than conventional PDU configurations.
Freedom in outlets, connections and rack layout
A PDU alternative needs to be more than electrically suitable. It also needs to fit mechanically within the existing rack infrastructure.
That is why options including outlet type and quantity, positioning, input, cable length, plug type, housing and mounting can be configured.
One of the available solutions is the CX Combination Outlet C13/C15/C19/C21. A single CX outlet supports multiple IEC plug types, including C14, C16, C20 and C22, and uses IEC Lock to help prevent accidental disconnection.
Other outlet types and combinations are also available.
PDU 5.0: choose PDU functionality and management architecture independently
An important difference with Schleifenbauer PDU 5.0 is its modular architecture.
Once you have determined the PDU functionality you require — Metered, Monitored, Switched or Managed — you can independently determine how the intelligent PDUs are managed.
Three communication options are available.
Controller Module + EnerTree Lite
The Controller Module runs EnerTree Lite as embedded software.
This provides a conventional intelligent PDU management architecture: intelligence is located locally on the PDU and can be accessed directly through its web interface.
The Controller can also integrate directly with existing DCIM systems.
Gateway Module + EnerTree Platform
With the Gateway Module, intelligence is centralised within EnerTree Platform.
EnerTree Platform runs outside the PDU in a dedicated virtual machine and collects and processes measurement data from connected Schleifenbauer PDUs.
This creates a scalable Data Centre Energy Management (DCEM) environment capable of managing up to 10,000 PDUs.
EnerTree Platform provides functionality including centralised energy management, historical data, reporting and analytics, alerts, Power Quality Monitoring, PUE monitoring, mass management and Zero Touch Provisioning.
Importantly, EnerTree Platform is available with the Gateway architecture without recurring software licence fees.
Daisy Chain Module
Not every PDU needs its own Ethernet connection.
With Daisy Chain, multiple PDUs can be connected to the network through a Controller or Gateway. A ring can contain up to 100 PDUs using a single IP address.
The dedicated Daisy Chain Module functions as a cost-efficient data relay and does not have its own Ethernet port. This reduces the amount of network hardware required in the rack while also reducing the Ethernet attack surface at rack level.
The management architecture can change later
The choice of management architecture does not have to be permanent.
PDU 5.0 communication modules are modular and hot-swappable. This means the management architecture can be changed later without replacing the complete PDU.
A data centre could, for example, start with Controller Modules and EnerTree Lite and later migrate to a centralised Gateway architecture with EnerTree Platform.
The physical rack power infrastructure remains in place while the management architecture evolves with the data centre.
From power distribution to energy intelligence
An intelligent PDU is ultimately more than a power strip inside a rack.
Depending on the selected functionality, PDU 5.0 can collect electrical measurement data at input, phase, branch and outlet level.
This provides increasingly granular visibility into where available power is actually being consumed:
Data Centre → Rack → PDU → Phase → Branch → Outlet → IT Device
EnerTree brings this information together centrally, turning individual measurements into a broader view of energy consumption, available capacity and the condition of the rack power infrastructure.
Power distribution therefore becomes:
