A kWh (kiloWatt hour) is a unit for energy. It the multiplication of power (kW) and time (hr). The power is in this case the multiplication of voltage (volt) and current (amp) where we use the actual current (as opposed to the apparent current).
The Schleifenbauer kWh meter (kilo Watt hour) measures the energy consumption of all equipment connected to this meter. The user is capable of reading out the usage on the LCD display of the meter or retrieve it from the database where all the data is stored. The measurements of the kWh-meter can be transmitted through the Gateway to a MySQL database. Schleifenbauer's open source policy makes that all documentation is publicly available on their web site.
The accuracy of the Schleifenbauer kWh meter is according to EN 50470:3 Class C. This means that the meter has a maximum deviation of 1%.
The kWh meter of Schleifenbauer produces 2 values: the kWh-total and kWh-subtotal. These 2 measurements can be compared to the odo-meter and the day-trip meter in a car; the kWh-subtotal can be reset to 0000 only through the Gateway. This option is to accomodate new customers that move into a cabinet that was in use before. By resetting the meter, the new customer has a clear view on his energy usage. Besides kWh, the Schleifenbauer meter also measures: Amperes, Volts, power factor and temperature.
